MATSON + PALMER cashmere blankets are luxurious and baby soft. Each blanket is hand-woven from rare, irregular, hand-twisted cashmere from a women's co-op in Afghanistan where they raise the goats, comb the fibers and spin the yarns.
Each skein of cashmere is hand-dyed by Jane Palmer with natural dyes in her studio in downtown Los Angeles. She uses proprietary dye techniques that take hours, or even days, to make each skein unique. The warp yarns are linen and alpaca dead-stock, primarily sourced from a denim company in LA. These yarns are hand-dyed with walnut or indigo before threading on the loom. The dyed cashmere is then passed along to Christy Matson who weaves on one of the only hand-operated Jacquard looms in southern California.
The design for each blanket is a one-of-a-kind collaboration in color and weaving structures. The irregularity of the hand-twisted yarns work perfectly with Matson’s weaving process, making each a unique piece of art. Each blanket takes about one month to produce from conception through dyeing and weaving. MATSON + PALMER do not make the same blanket twice.
